Vote for the candidates who support women journalists’ rights
The Center for Protection of Afghan Women Journalists (CPAWJ), following the campaign of prohibition of women journalists’ harassment in the media and electoral campaigns, this time is launching another campaign titled ‘vote for candidates who support women journalists’ rights’ with the aim of support and defense of the rights of women journalists. The campaign began on September 2nd.
The campaign aims to support the candidates who have committed to defend the rights of women reporters, and pave the ground for women to enjoy their rights regarding taking part in elections.
Presidential runners Mohammad Hakim Torsan, Abdul Latif Pedram, Noorulhaq Olumi and Dr. Faramarz Tamanna announced support of the campaign and promised to defend and support women’s rights in general and women journalists’ rights in particular when they win the polls and become president.
The Center for Protection of Afghan Women Journalists calls on those presidential candidates who have not yet joined the campaign and invites them and announce support for preserving and ensuring the rights of women journalists.
The center also asks all journalists especially women reporters, media companies, civil society and human rights entities to raise the voice of ‘vote those candidates who support women journalists’ rights’ for maintaining the values and rights of women journalists.
The Reporters Sans Frontiers (RSF) and the international organization for defense of media freedom in Afghanistan with the cooperation of the Center for Protection of Afghan Women Journalists, have already announced support of this campaign.
