A number of women journalists in the northern province of Balkh formed a lawsuit group for ladies in the media on November 25th, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
Homaira Moradi, reporter for Arezoo TV, a local channel complained for lack of birth vacations for women journalists, saying that lack of retirement payments for them was another problem.
“There are lots of challenges before journalists especially women reporters. The lawsuit group by women for women journalist will be a good and effective step in my opinion,” she said.
Meena Saee, head of NAI supporting media office in the northern zone said the lawsuit group would help for improvement of work condition of women journalists.
She added that most of women reporters have problems with lack of standard contracts and few salaries in the media outlets active in Balkh province. She suggested that journalists be taught about the media law so women journalists know about their rights and defend it.
Morsal Amiri, representative of the Center for Protection of Afghan Women Journalists in Balkh province said that a session be held soon to probe and implement the views and suggestions offered by women journalists in the province so that their duties are implemented through these bills.
