KABUL: The Committee for Journalists’ Safety, in a news conference held on the occasion of the May 3rd, the International Media Day, shared the journalists’ problems with the media outlets.
The committee chief executive, Seddiqullah Tawhidi, said that no report is as important as the lives of journalists. He called on the reporters to take care of their lives, while covering events and incidents, especially reporting the upcoming legislative election, because he argued that similar attacks would likely happen against journalists in the future.
He emphasized that the media runners are responsible of saving their reporters’ lives, asking the media owners to provide safety equipment such as helmets and bullet-proof vests for journalists when they are sent to make reports from battlefields or terrorist attacks.
He complained that it is difficult to get access to the media owners because they are either in abroad or are engaged in political activities and enjoy supports from powerful politicians, so they are not ready to speak with the media supporting organizations.
Tawhidi added that journalists in many areas are deprived from getting information, despite the law of access to information was amended and approved.
During the conference held on the occasion of the Media International Day, journalists discussed the regulation for journalists’ safety, female reporters’ safety, election and its impacts on journalists, reporters’ responsibilities, job safety, media’s responsibility over reporters’ safety and the law of information access.
